Local Governments & the “I Care” Parental Involvement Character Curriculum Model
As a result of unprincipled behavior on the part of some elected and appointed officials, many local governments have adopted codes of ethics and even provide training in ethics. They are also becoming more vocal about the need for character development in the schools to combat trends and poor work performance.
Role of Local Governments
- Stress the importance of ethics in the workplace and character development in the home and schools
- Provide ethics training and codes of ethics for employees in all branches of local government, volunteers, and vendors
- Expect and model good character
- Support “I Care” Community Partnerships through:
- participation in meetings and special events
- serving as mentors, speakers, or volunteer helpers for “I Care” activities
- recognizing and awarding businesses, schools, parents, students, and members of the community who show exemplary character in their contributions to the community
